I am a Carbonate Geologist. I have been researching carbonate rocks since 2009 with a variety of 

dataset including cores, well logs, seismic 2D, and multibeam bathymetry.

ABOUT

Hello!

My name is Sara Bashah. I am currently a fourth-year Ph.D. student at the University of Miami. My doctorate research focuses on the the influence of currents on carbonate sedimentation in the Straits of Florida, and Marion Plateau, Australia. My research interests includes carbonate sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy,  the record of environmental changes in the sedimentary record, petrophysics and rock physics of carbonates.


I am also passionate in educating the public about our Earth through my travels, photography and social media. I aim to increase Earth Science literacy and encourage young girls to take Geology as their future career.

EXPERIENCE

LECTURER, UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI PETRONAS

December 2012 - December 2017

  • Independently taught Carbonate Sedimentology & Stratigraphy and Physical Geology to 200 international students per class. Awarded the ‘Effective Education Delivery Award.’

  • Secured grants of ~$30K to conduct research on carbonates in Borneo, and flood risk management in East Malaysia.

  • Successfully organized an international conference (ICIPEG 2014) with proceedings published as a book with Springer.

  • Collaborated with local tourism company to preserve Paleozoic limestone.

RESEARCH OFFICER, SE ASIA CARBONATE RESEARCH LABORATORY

July 2009 - July 2012

  • Produced carbonate rock physics report based on only 30 core plugs for Shell Sarawak.

  • Successfully host a visit for IFP Energy Students Summer Visit.
